In 1919, following post-war shortages of mohair and wool, Steiff began to create bears from alternative materials. Steiff's Teddies for Tomorrow series pays homage to these bears that were inadvertently created from more eco-friendly and sustainable materials following these shortages. Following in the footsteps of his predecessors in this series made from paper, hemp and bamboo fabrics, After Midnight is a handsome traditional teddy bear crafted from a long pile midnight blue paper plush fabric. He has endearing glass boot button style eyes and is stuffed with wood shavings in the traditional way. After Midnight's feet are made from an unusual faux-leather produced from pineapple fibres and perforated to show his wood shaving stuffing. He proudly wears a distinguished polished steel motif chest tag. Building on the heritage of bears made like this over 100 years ago, After Midnight boasts the distinctive design qualities of a traditional Steiff bear, as well as a modern, ethical and eco-friendly attitude to production.
